Airsoft electric guns require rechargeable batteries to operate, and as you would imagine they are available in various shapes, sizes, and degrees of quality. What battery your auto-electric gun (AEG) uses will be determined by available storage space, quality of internal components, and personal preference. Ideally you want the largest capacity battery that will fit, as the greater the capacity the longer the battery will last. Voltage is up to you - higher the voltage, the better the performance (rate of fire and trigger response) however it increases the stress on the internal components. Finally you have the battery type - NiCd, NiMh, LiPo, and LiFe. NiCd is antiquated technology, and there is no good reason to continue with their usage - NiMh came in to replace them, as they are more stable, reliable and offer the same performance without suffering from charge memory (i.e. battery does not have to be discharged before charging).
LiPo offers more power in a smaller package, however it is a little more volatile and requires greater care and attention - if you are looking for maximum performance, then Lipo is your battery...if you prefer lower maintenance, then stick with the NiMh. LiFe is a middleground between LiPo and NiMh; it is not as powerful as Lipo but as a result it is more stable. Stick type batteries are made for guns where the only battery space available is above the gearbox e.g. AK-series rifles with folding stocks, MP5K etc. All of the cells are arranged in a straight line, and they are one of the easiest batteries to put in and out, making battery changes a dream.
This particular stick type battery is an 8.4v 1600mAh manufactured by Intellect for Swiss Arms. It is of outstanding quality, outlasting most of the competition in charge/discharge cycles, as well as overall capacity per use. It is important to use this battery only with a high quality smart charger to ensure you get the longest lifespan out of the battery. Inferior charges can result in diminished returns, and cause the battery to burn out.
